Holds a Masters and PhD from the University of California, Berkeley. Mario Bergara joined the Central Bank of Uruguay on June 23 1990. He has held the positions of Chief Economist of the Central Bank of Uruguay, Director of the Unit Regulating Communications Services (URSEC) from 2001 to 2005, and was appointed Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Finance in 2005, a position he held until 2008.
